Depends on the server. For most servers, that is correct, but for the XWorks server you have to stop using it an uninstall it, if I was told correctly.
But I would consider it a bad idea. Then you have to use forums like this for support, and can't contact IBM if you run into some more serious issues. Also, you can't update to later versions, which may fix issues that you have.
I find it somewhat inconsiderate of people who decide not to renew the support, and then come here for free support instead, shifting the cost to someone else.
